This singular portrait of an extended family, located in Vermiglio’s small mountain village in the auction days of the World War II, follows a series of dramatic events and consequently after the arrival of a taciturn soldier (Giuseppe de Domenico), who hides in the city after leaving the army. While he is there, the soldier develops a romance with the eldest daughter of the family, Lucia (Martina Scrinzi). “Vermiglio” shows the life of a provincial family in a distant village suspended in time by the customs of a discolored era. Conjering stories from the past of his own family, Delpero creates a deeply personal and human story that resembles the great neorealist movement in Italian cinema, but through Lucia’s perspective, “Vermiglio” seems distinct and new.
